Ministry Information

What is Music Ministry?

The role of a church musician, whether paid or volunteer, is a multifaceted opportunity and responsibility. There is much more involved in this ministry than merely showing up; the countless hours spent in rehearsal during the week, the time at home needed to review your music, and the care spent in developing your talent are all needed to prepare for worship. With each aspect of music we offer praise and thanksgiving to Christ, proclaim the Word, and assist the congregation in their own worship experience. Music stirs the hearts and minds of both performer and hearer in ways that no other element of worship can. There is an old Quaker proverb that says "Where many candles are brought together, there is more light." Singing in a choir is much like this proverb: an individual pools his or her given musical resources with the gifts of others to create something much larger or more beautiful than that which could be offered alone. This is one of the greatest benefits of singing in a church choir.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to engage the gathered assembly in the full and active participation of the mass by encouraging sung prayer and offering music that might lift their hearts and unite their mind with God. The Music Ministry at Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church musical offerings reflect the best of our traditional and modern resources within our heritage and sending forth its people to be effective witnesses to the love and truth of the Gospel. Our purpose is to have adults, youth, and children participate in our ministry recognizing that liturgical music is an important part of many people's spiritual and worship life.

Our Groups

YOUTH CHOIR

Your child is cordially invited to be a part of the choral program at Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Church. Combining excellent musical and liturgical training with an opportunity to serve the church, the Saint Kateri Youth Choir provides an opportunity for girls and boys in grades 2nd -10th. (Please note that the children need to be able to read, sit for mass and pay attention during our weekly 1 hr. rehearsals).

Directed by Mrs. Nina Ricci and accompanied by Mr. Peter Krauss, rehearsals are held on Wednesdays at 6pm to 7pm in the church. The choir sings at the 9am Sunday Mass twice a month and special holidays or events, such as Christmas Eve, Easter and for diocesan choral festivals. Choral members expand their musical horizons in a Christ-centered environment, and learn new techniques that develop vocal skills, leadership abilities, music reading proficiency, liturgical knowledge and more.

Parents and singers are welcome to visit the choir before deciding to commit to membership. For more information or to enroll in the Saint Kateri Youth Choir, please contact us.
